Sidebars_aboutproj
Harris Creek Connected is a design project to raise awareness about individual and collective actions that can improve the environmental health of Harris Creek Watershed, the Baltimore Harbor and ultimately, the Chesapeake Bay. The Harris Creek Watershed is comprised of 20 neighborhoods in East Baltimore that vary widely in socioeconomic status but are connected through a natural boundary called a watershed. The watershed is named for the Harris Creek, a waterway that once ran through these neighborhoods and is buried completely underground as part of the storm drain system.

Sidebars_challenge

Members of Harris Creek communities vary widely in education and income level, and some may not consider how their actions are connected with the actions of others in different parts of the watershed. Each time it rains, stormwater carries trash from all over the watershed into the drains and dumps it into the harbor.

Sidebars_solution

Harris Creek Connected is an education and community engagement project on actions we can take to improve our neighborhoods, watershed and bay. Different designed actions were piloted with individual communities. The next step is to collect these activities into a toolkit and scale this project watershed wide.
