Sidebars_aboutproj
The Revinylize Project promotes and encourages social awareness with the power of creativity. By reclaiming local billboard material, the once giant images are transformed into smaller works of art in the form of unique vinyl bags and accessories. The Revinylize Project empowers the public to use design thinking to stimulate thought, dialog and action by holding workshops, community events and local projects. The AIGA SLC conceived of this project in 2009 and sparked the idea for integration into the design curriculum at the University of Utah.

Sidebars_challenge

Senior students in the design program in the Department of Art & Art History at the University of Utah were given large remnants of billboard material as the raw material for the creation of anything they could imagine that would breathe new life into this material that would sit in landfills for years.

Sidebars_solution

The results of this creative re-use project were vast and imaginative. Solutions ranged from raincoats, purses and aprons to wallets, accessories and skateboard decks.
