The goal of this project is to establish educational resources to increase awareness about the meaning of the recycling symbols and numbers listed on plastics through a website. The audience is anyone who uses plastic and wants information about recycling. The end goal is to reduce plastic use and encourage proper recycling. Through proper education, the public will become more aware of the challenges associated with recycling plastic bottles, and would highlight best practices which would inform legislative efforts. Possible extensions of the site may include promoting a re-design of the Polymer Identification Code.

The immediate focus of the website will be to clear up misconceptions about the recycling symbols. The recycling symbol system utilized to identify plastics is often misleading to consumers, and fosters misconceptions about the recycling of plastics.
