“What’s Your Story” Short Film Screening
Students from Newcomers High School at the Welcoming Stories Workshop
Join Design Ignites Change in attending a film screening from the 2010 Implementation Award winning project First Person American that will be shown in New York City later this month. “What’s Your Story? 2012 Premiere” will take place at the theater at the Ellis Island Immigration Museum, Friday, July 20, 2012 2-4 pm. The event will feature short films produced by First Person American and Newcomers High School (a 100% immigrant high school in Long Island City) Human Rights Class and is hosted by The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, Inc. and Ellis Island.
The short films are the outcome of Welcoming Stories Workshop—a 10-session workshop created by First Person American to explore personal immigration narratives from high school students about the people that welcomed them and changed their lives forever. Following the premiere, guests are encouraged to stay and create a Welcoming Story with First Person American.
