Michael Etter is an artist, educator, and activist who works in – and at the intersection of – graphic arts and publishing, media communications, and grassroots organizing. Michael’s work reflects his personal philosophy, which holds that the power of the creative process can transform community life. Motivated by the desire to improve communications for the organizations he believes in, Michael chose to advance his skills at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.
Working with and mentoring youth has always been a passion and is the reason he founded a re:active; a nonprofit, design-education program for underserved youth while still at school in Los Angeles. His strongest motivation is working to realize an inclusive design education system that will bring voices to the design community that are rarely involved.
With six years of youth programming under his belt he is a perfect fit for the mission of Design Ignites Change. He is organizing the “Create! Don’t Hate.” program in Portland, OR and Los Angeles in 2010. He is currently the Senior Communications Designer at Ziba Design, an internationally acclaimed design consultancy located in Portland, OR.
